A Recipe for Festive Wellbeing

Christmas can be one of those times when all our usual routines go out the window.

And whilst its lovely to relax and let go a little, if you are anything like me, after a few days it can leave you feeling a bit… bleugh.

So we want to share a simple recipe we use to keep our sense of balance and wellbeing over the festive season (and beyond)!

There are four simple ingredients. All you have to do is try and include each element every day. Don’t worry if you don’t manage though, its just a general guide!

  1. Move

Find a way to move each day.

It’s so tempting when it’s cold outside to cozy up on the sofa all day. But we know that moving our bodies is one of the best ways to take care of it and give us an instant wellbeing boost!

It doesn’t have to be a full on workout if you don’t love doing that… taking a gentle walk is a great way to get your circulation going and getting outside to breathe in the fresh air will clear any cobwebs or seasonal hangovers!  If your body is telling you it needs to rest, maybe just do some gentle stretching. It all counts!

  • Connect

Find some meaningful connection in your day. This time of year is great for connecting with family and friends – even if you cant see them, it can be nice to send them a message to let them know you are thinking of them.

Connecting doesn’t have to be just about people either, you can find moments of connection with all sorts of things, like spending time with a pet, connecting with nature, or connecting with something meaningful to you – like a hobby, learning something new, volunteering or connecting spiritually.

  • Rest

Rest can be hard to come by for some people at this time of the year – with all the planning and festivities going on! But rest is SO essential to our wellbeing.

Plan in moments of rest each day, even if it is literally just one quiet moment whilst you make a cup of tea in the morning. Savour moments of stillness, slow down your breath and give yourself permission to just be.

If you have a quieter festive period planned, remember that rest can be active too! It’s about finding an activity you find restorative rather than depleting and making sure it gets dedicated space in your day.

  • Enjoy

Do something each day that brings you joy.

It doesn’t have to be anything big or special…. it’s very be easy to compare our lives to those around us or that we see on social media – especially this time of the year. But joy really can be found in the smallest of moments if we look hard enough.  When you experience a moment of joy soak it all in and remember it as a key part of your day.

One way you can do this is by keeping a journal of moments that spark joy and to keep track of how you incorporate each of these four ingredients into each day. Use it to plan things in and reflect on unexpected moments you notice.

We hope this recipe brings you a festive sprinkling of balance and wellbeing, as it has done to us.

We will be sharing ways we include each ingredient using #festivewellbeingrecipe so why not share your ideas too!

Warm Festive Wishes,
